I’m born in silence, yet dance in a crowd, Falling from heavens without making a sound. A traveler of winter, fragile and light, I sparkle by day and vanish by night. No two of my kind are ever the same, Though billions appear, each earns its own name. I drift without wings, I settle, then stay, But touch me too warmly I’m gone right away. I blanket the earth in a shimmering white, Turn rooftops to pillows and fields soft as night. Children will chase me with laughter and cheer, While others may curse when I suddenly appear. I’m art without artist, geometry in flight, A crystal that forms in the coldest of nights. Though tiny alone, together I grow, A kingdom of winter the whole world will know. What am I?
